How to turn on the Stensul MCP server for your account, what to have ready, and what there isn't yet.
Where things stand
- It works against your company's own Stensul instance. It isn't a standalone API with its own accounts.
- There's no public sandbox or trial account yet. We'd rather say that here than have you find out halfway through a setup guide.
Already a Stensul customer
Ask your Stensul customer success manager to turn on the MCP for your account. They'll switch on the external API and the admin permission your Stensul admin needs. Then follow the guide for your host.
Not sure whether the MCP is on for your company, or who your customer success manager is? Email help@stensul.com from your work address and ask. Once it's on, the config generator writes a message you can send your Stensul admin.

Have these ready
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which AI host your team is approved to use | Setup differs: Copilot uses an agent, Writer needs a secret, ChatGPT needs Developer Mode |
| Who your Stensul admin and host admin are | Each does one step, once |
| The first workflow you want to try | Brief to draft, localization and quality checks are the common starts. See recipes |
| What your security team will ask | See Security and data for how access works |
While you wait
